Memphis became the capital of the Old Kingdom and remain important city throughout ancient Egypt times as it occupied a strategic position at the mouth of the Nile Delta. Next, visit Sakkara, the former burial ground (necropolis ) of the city of Memphis and the place where the very first pyramids were built as tombs for kings. The famous Step Pyramid of King Zoser, the oldest known of Egypt’s 97 pyramids feature six steps on the outside, representing the pharaoh’s stepladder to heaven. The Pyramid was built approx. 27th century BC and is 62 meters high.
